We participated in our first Farmers Market in four years on June 13th, 2025. This market occurs on Thursdays from 12 to 5 PM. I brought a minimum amount of baked goods - most of you have seen photos of my previous setups on Facebook from past posts throughout the years. There were a total of eighteen vendors, with one other vendor selling similar items. The vendors were lovely!
Surprisingly, for us, we did better than we’d anticipated - especially being new to the market, and it being a Thursday. Our success came from our posts on the local Community FB pages (following their rules about self promotion), and our ultimate success will come from self promotion and word of mouth. Since we are considered a “part time” vendor (twice a month), I’ll be curious to see how we do in the second round!
You know what else happens at a weekday market, especially when the market is located across from the City Hall? The Health Department comes and visits the market, as much as they'd like! 🙂 We had such a visit. The Health Inspector had already inspected my kitchen, and had given me my license. Now, she inspected my booth’s set up. You know what she noted (and enjoyed)? That I had the required signage posted for all to see. In my case, this included the Department of Health License, various Disclaimers (optional, but something she found impressive and technically were required back in Colorado), and the MA Sales and Use License. She loved (and noted) that I utilized coolers for my products, even though none of the products were TCS (I like preserving product integrity and will discuss the affects of HEAT in another blog). After the Health Department rep made more numerous notes, she gave me another license for market participation! (Who knew!) 😛
The best part? After her market inspections, she came back and made some purchases to enjoy on her way to court. ♥️
